Users have reported that it works great for cyclocross and gravel riding as well. If you’ve been using uberly stiff-soled MTB shoes, this footwear might not feel up to par. However, if you prefer a little bit of flex with satisfactory power transfer, the Privateer Lace delivers.

The Giro Privateer Lace employs a co-molded nylon sole, which provides adequate stiffness for power transfer. It also features a little bit of yield for hike-a-bike comfort.
Equipped with aggressive rubber lugs and steel spike accommodation, this shoe keeps the wearer upright no matter how muddy and slippery the trail is. Please note that steel toe spikes are sold separately.
2-bolt cleat design
The Giro Privateer Lace is compatible with MTB pedals that feature the 2-bolt cleat design (or SPD). Some of the pedals you can pair with this model are any of Shimano’s SPD pedals, Time’s ATAC pedals, and any of Look’s MTB pedals.
Indoor cycling practitioners can also use this pair in fitness studios that use 2-bolt pedals for their stationary fitness bikes.
