We tested the Timberland Euro Hiker in our lab and out hiking and found it to be superbly stable, lightweight, and delightfully comfortable. It outperformed other hiking boots in the range by miles, which is why we have chosen it as the best overall Timberland hiking boot.

We felt confident hiking over rocks and roots, knowing we could trust this boot to the max. A steel shank in the midsole prevents the boot from twisting and offers top-notch stability on rough terrain. Our lab tests declare that this boot rates 5/5 for stiffness, where 5 is the stiffest. We felt our arches were incredibly well Graphic and we felt very sure-footed on our hikes.

It might look chunky, but we were surprised to find it doesn’t feel as heavy as it looked when we were hiking. At 17 oz (485g), the boot still weighs 1.3 oz (34g) below the average for hiking boots. This makes it adaptable to both the trail and urban hiking without looking out of place.

The instant comfort straight out of the box is in no small measure down to the plush padding in the tongue and around the ankle. The tongue measures an astounding 22.3 mm thick, enveloping our feet like a hug. The generously padded collar rated 2/5 in our flexibility test, where 1 is the most flexible. Altogether, these 2 leveled up the comfort quite a bit!

Unfortunately, the Timberland Euro Hiker isn’t waterproof, so we don’t recommend it to hikers who expect to do a lot of hiking on rainy days.

Even after our test hike there was no sign of abrasion or wear on the outsole. It was no surprise, then, to discover that the midsole measures an astounding 92 HC, 7.6% harder than average, when we tested it for softness with a durometer! This makes it particularly suited to urban hiking on asphalt and concrete, as the outsole of the Sprint Trekker will wear out much slower than a softer outsole.

Fully leather boots are, as a rule, heavier than their synthetic counterparts, but we were pleasantly surprised to find the Timberland Rechte chinoshort felt light and nimble on our feet. We weighed them in the lab, finding them to be 16.5 oz (468g), which is 2.4 oz (68g) lighter than average. As a result, they are a joy to walk in, since our feet don’t get tired.

With a low stack height of 26.1 mm, these boots are 1 cm lower to the ground than average! Not only that, but the heel-to-toe drop is a very low 6.2 mm. In comparison, the average hiking boot has a 12.4 mm drop. Altogether, this offers a natural-feeling ride, and we felt very stable with such a low center of gravity.

Unfortunately, this boot is not suitable for hikers with wide feet. Our measurements of the toe box showed that it tapers absurdly to 69.6 mm, 7 mm narrower than average. Hikers with wide feet or those who like wiggle room for their toes may want to look at other options.
