Unlike the total overhaul that was the v12, this version is mostly just an upper update to the 880. Replacing the previous year’s Jacquard mesh is an engineered mesh that’s just as padded and comfortable, but immensely more breathable.
Though it no longer possesses the v12’s “warm for winter” qualities, the shoe’s summer utility skyrocketed. According to one runner, her feet felt well-ventilated even during “a muggy, humid morning in South Florida.”
Keeps your foot in place
While it does have some give, reviewers found the new upper as being more snug-fitting than its predecessor. This, combined with its “relatively strict” heel counter and effective laces, creates a superb overall lockdown in the 880v13.
Narrow, but you’ve got plenty of options
If it weren’t for the availability of the wides and extra-wides, the 880v13 would’ve been relegated to narrow-feet-only status.
Testers noted that the standard sizes generally felt a half-size small, with a slightly tight fit around the midfoot and heel.

When describing it, reviewers can only come up with things like “nicely balanced,” “so smooth,” and “consistently delivers.” And there’s nothing wrong with that—not every shoe has to be peppy and propulsive, some (like the 880) just have to get the job done right.

Grip on the NB 880v13 is excellent, according to runners, holding its own even on slippery surfaces and light trails.
There’s also “a ridiculous amount of rubber” (as a runner has said) in the outsole—5 mm to be specific. For context, the lugs on most trail shoes are only 4 mm thick.
This makes the shoe incredibly durable—befitting for a shoe meant for daily pavement pounding—but also quite heavy. Stacked up against other neutral daily trainers, the v13 weighs substantially more (281g vs 301g).
