Although the Phantasms's cushion has some give to it, multiple runners observe that it maintains a great blend of softness and firmness, creating a stable ride.

Apart from the shoe's midsole, the upper also does an astounding job of keeping the foot supported. It's foot-conforming; its fit is "perfectly spot on" explains one expert. 

However, the comments from narrow-footed and wide-footed runners have been polarizing. A handful of testers say that the shoe's unstructured upper may lack support for those with narrow feet. However, there are also experts who advise wide-footed runners to stay away from the Phantasm with one of them warning: "you've no chance squeezing your plates of meat to this."  

A skin-rubbing upper

Because it's a completely see-through mesh with zero padding, it's abrasive on foot. One runner shares their impression of the upper, stating it has a "harsh plasticky feel." 

But on the positive side, this also means that the upper is crazy breathable! And if there's one word commenters have for the upper, it's airy. One even jokes that for winter, "be sure to wear some warm socks...or get some cold toes!"

Those who have run long distances and have experienced foot swelling all agree that there's enough space for their toes. And a road runner, who claims they have "Hobbit-like" feet loves the toe box as it's quite generous.

"Keeping the desired fit can be a bit cumbersome," shares one reviewer. And this is because of the laces as they are (1) flat and (2) slippy; they easily come untied while running.

Two testers who have already clocked up 100 miles in the Salomon Phantasm are amazed by the shoe's durability. According to them, the outsole is solid as hell; it takes some time before it shows any sign of wear and tear.
